Pappas Announces Support for Suite of Legislation to Prevent Increase in Health Care Costs
Legislation would extend ACA subsidies to prevent premiums from skyrocketing next year
Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced his support for a suite of bills that would prevent massive increases in health care premiums for Granite Staters next year that could price families out of being able to secure health coverage altogether.
If Congress fails to act, it’s estimated that premiums could increase by up to 75% next year, nearly $700 per person. This would also have a major impact on small businesses, whose workers represent half of adults covered by the ACA.
“Everywhere I go, I hear from families and small businesses about how they are struggling to make ends meet in the face of rising costs and President Trump’s destructive tariffs,” said Congressman Pappas. “Speaker Johnson’s decision to push forward a partisan CR that fails to take action to keep health care costs affordable shows yet again just how out of touch their agenda is with the people of New Hampshire. I urge the speaker to bring legislation to the floor immediately that will ensure hard-working Granite Staters can maintain their health coverage without blowing a hole in their family budgets.”
Congressman Pappas is cosponsoring the following legislation to keep premiums affordable:
The Protecting Health Care and Lowering Costs Act of 2025 would completely repeal the devastating health care cuts made by the Republicans’ budget bill and make permanent the enhanced premium tax credits for ACA Marketplace plans. Senator Shaheen helped introduce companion legislation in the Senate. Senator Hassan is also a cosponsor of this legislation.
The Health Care Affordability Act of 2025 would make permanent the enhanced premium tax credits for ACA Marketplace plans. Senator Shaheen leads companion legislation in the Senate. Senator Hassan is a cosponsor of this legislation in the Senate, and Congresswoman Goodlander is a cosponsor of this legislation in the House.
The Bipartisan Premium Tax Credit Extension Act would extend the enhanced premium tax credits for ACA Marketplace plans for one additional year.
