Washington, D.C. – Yesterday it was announced that Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen would be stepping down from her post after reports that the Trump Administration didn't believe she was willing to implement increasingly extreme policies. Congressman Pappas issued the following statement in response to Secretary Nielsen's resignation:

"As Kirstjen Nielsen's tenure comes to an end, we must acknowledge the mismanagement and un-American family separation policy that defined her time at the department. We need to insist that the next Secretary of Homeland Security has the ability to keep our country safe from a wide variety of threats while standing up to this President when he is wrong or demands extreme immigration measures. DHS has an important role to play in protecting our communities and interdicting illegal drugs, and New Hampshire depends on the department to get the job done without undermining our constitution or values."
