Congressman Pappas Reacts to President Trump’s State of the Union Address

February 4, 2020

Following President Trump's State of the Union Address, Congressman Chris Pappas issued the following statement:

"While the state of our union is strong, we still have much more work to do to ensure that every American can share in our country's success. I was pleased that the President expressed his desire to work with Congress to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing our families and our communities. I remain committed to working in a bipartisan fashion to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, reduce the cost of prescription drugs, ensure veterans get the care they have earned, and combat the addiction epidemic.

However, we need more than words; we need action. In the House, we have already passed historic legislation that will make life-saving medications more affordable. The Senate should immediately take up and pass H.R. 3, and I urge the President to honor his commitment tonight to sign it into law ‘without delay.'

I was disappointed that the President failed to outline a comprehensive vision to rebuild our nation and make badly needed transportation and infrastructure investments. The House has already advanced a far-reaching infrastructure framework and I call on the President and my colleagues in the Senate to come to the table.

The American people expect us to come together and seize these opportunities to deliver real results and I won't rest until we make fundamental progress."
