Congressman Pappas’s Statement on SCOTUS Ruling to Protect Dreamers

June 18, 2020

Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled against the Trump Administration's efforts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that protects young undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.

"Dreamers are part of our American family. They enrich our communities, strengthen our economy, and call no other country but the United States home," said Congressman Pappas. "Today's decision will provide temporary relief for the thousands of Dreamers who have been living in fear, but we cannot stop here. It is time for the Senate to take up the bipartisan legislation that has already passed the House which will give DACA recipients a pathway to citizenship and allow them to continue building their American dream."

Congressman Pappas is a co-sponsor of the Dream and Promise Act, which passed the House last year. This legislation would provide permanent status and a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients.
