Congressman Pappas Statement on Trump Administration’s Domestic Gag Rule

February 23, 2019

Manchester, N.H. – Congressman Chris Pappas issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration's final rule to impose a domestic gag rule and dismantle Title X programs. Title X is the only domestic program providing women and men access to vital family planning services.

"The Trump Administration's rule to deny funds to Title X programs is a harmful decision that jeopardizes the health care of four million Americans and 14,000 Granite Staters," said Congressman Pappas. "This ruling will force health care providers to choose between accepting funding that keeps doors open and providing their patients with life-saving information and services. The Trump Administration should be ashamed of this rule change, and I intend to fight alongside our Congressional delegation to protect the health, safety, and well-being of women in New Hampshire and across the country."

A domestic gag rule was denounced by every major medical association, including the American Medication Association which stated "this ruling would dangerously interfere with the patient-physician relationship and conflict with physicians' ethical obligations, exclude qualified providers, and jeopardize public health."
