House of Representatives Honors Law Enforcement’s Protection of the U.S. Capitol

March 17, 2021

Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) voted to award Congressional Gold Medals to the United States Capitol Police and DC Metropolitan Police who defended the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest level of distinction that the House of Representatives can award.

"On January 6, 2021, we saw an unprecedented attack on our democracy, and it would have succeeded were it not for the courage and sacrifice of law enforcement who responded," said Congressman Pappas. "The U.S. Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police demonstrated courage under fire and exhibited true patriotism in protecting all those in and around the Capitol, ensuring that a peaceful transition of power could be completed. Although we will never be able to fully repay them for their service, I hope the Congressional Gold Medal will serve as an enduring symbol of our nation's gratitude."
