ICYMI: Pappas Secures Extension of Fallen Heroes Flag Program
Without reauthorization, program funding would have expired at the end of FY 2022
In December 2022, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) and Nicole Malliotakis’s (NY-11) bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Fallen Heroes Flag Act was included in the FY23 Omnibus funding package and signed into law. They introduced the legislation on Flag Day in June 2022.
The legislation reauthorized the Fallen Heroes Flag Program, which provides a flag flown over the Capitol to the families of firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“The Fallen Heroes Flag Program honors the sacrifice of law enforcement and public safety officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and I’m proud our legislation to continue this important tradition has been signed into law,” said Congressman Pappas. “Public safety is a top priority for me, and I’ll continue working across the aisle in Congress to honor and support members of law enforcement.”
"Our police, firefighters, and first responders put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities," said Congresswoman Malliotakis. "For those who've lost their lives in the line of duty, providing their families a Capitol-flown flag is the least Congress can do to honor their service. I'm happy the Fallen Heroes Flag Program has been extended and it’s been my pleasure to work with Congressman Pappas to advocate for its reauthorization.”
