NH Delegation Honors Granite State Law Enforcement at Congressional Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony

Today Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) joined Senator Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Senator Maggie Hassan (NH), and Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (NH-02) to honor New Hampshire’s law enforcement community at the New Hampshire Congressional Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony. The annual ceremony was held at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy in Concord where the Congressional delegation presented awards and delivered remarks honoring the bravery, service, and sacrifice of New Hampshire’s law enforcement officers. The New Hampshire Congressional Law Enforcement Awards were started in 1998 to recognize the exemplary service of New Hampshire’s law enforcement.

“To the law enforcement officers being honored this year for going above and beyond to protect and serve our communities, congratulations and thank you,” said Congressman Pappas. “Each individual honored represents the very best that New Hampshire has to offer, as heard through the stories of their acts of bravery under fire, selflessness, life-saving action, and uncommon valor. I’m grateful for the dedication of the men and women of our law enforcement who keep our state safe and strong. We must continue to provide them with the support, resources, and respect that they have earned.”

“Too often the service and sacrifice of our dedicated law enforcement officers and personnel go underappreciated and unheralded, so it’s an honor to continue a nearly thirty-year tradition of recognizing New Hampshire’s finest with the Congressional Law Enforcement Awards,” said Senator Shaheen. “This year’s ceremony is my last as a member of Congress, and it has been an honor to work alongside New Hampshire law enforcement in my roles as governor and U.S. Senator. Congratulations to all of those recognized tonight for their courageous work. Their service is a source of great pride and admiration across the Granite State.”

“It’s an honor to recognize and thank our law enforcement officers for their courage, dedication, and willingness to serve and protect their fellow Granite Staters. Public safety is the most fundamental task of any government. I am deeply grateful for our law enforcement officers’ work to keep our communities safe, and I will continue to stand with law enforcement and support their important work,” said Senator Hassan.

“Courage is running toward danger when everyone else runs away. Tonight’s honorees did exactly that,” said Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander. “They are New Hampshire’s finest, and we owe them and their families our deepest thanks and real support.”

2026 Congressional Law Enforcement Award Recipients:

Associate Service Award: The awards committee recognizes non-law enforcement first responders and civilians who have come to the assistance of law enforcement personnel in the course of their duties, at times putting their own lives in harm’s way.

Unit Citation Award:

The Unit Citation Award is designated for actions that involved a group of officers, who as a team, display extraordinary heroism, gallantry, or exceptionally meritorious service.

Officer Richard W. Bateman Dedication and Professionalism Award: This award, previously known as the Dedication and Professionalism Award, was renamed in honor of Officer Richard W. Bateman, who died in November of 2020 and was one of the founding members of the NH Congressional Law Enforcement Award (NH-CLEA) committee. Officer Bateman exemplified service to others over his many years of service with the Hampton Police Department. This award honors law enforcement personnel that go beyond their normal duties in service to others.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty: This award is for officers who put their lives in harm’s way to help others. The NH-CLEA committee realizes that this is always part of any officer’s duties, but there are times when heroism and sacrifice in extreme circumstances need to be recognized. It should be noted that this award has been given posthumously.
