Pappas Applauds Medicare Drug Pricing Announcement
Pappas fought to pass legislation allowing Medicare to negotiate with drug companies and lower the cost of prescription drugs
Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement applauding the Department of Health and Human Services’ selection of the first ten drugs eligible for Medicare drug price negotiation under the Inflation Reduction Act, which Pappas fought to pass last year. The drugs selected are used by more than 8 million people covered by Medicare, including 31,000 seniors in New Hampshire.
“This is a critical step towards lowering prescription drug prices for Granite Staters. No one should have to go without life saving medication while big drug companies reap record profits, but that's exactly what is happening. I know Granite Staters who are unable to retire because they rely upon drugs that cost up to $3,000 a month out of pocket or ration prescriptions because they can’t afford to fill them as frequently as they need. The drugs selected today represent many of the costliest and most frequently used medications, and these negotiations will significantly lower both out-of-pocket costs for patients and the cost borne by Medicare to cover these drugs. As this process moves forward I will continue fighting to lower the cost of health care and critical medication for all Granite Staters.”
More information about today’s announcement is available from the Department of Health and Human Services.
