Pappas Backs Three Gun Violence Prevention Bills

June 30, 2025

This Gun Violence Awareness Month Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced he is once again co-sponsoring critical legislation to strengthen gun violence prevention, help save lives, and stop the epidemic of gun violence in across the country: the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, the Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act, and Ethan’s Law.

“Our thoughts and prayers are not enough to prevent gun violence. Common sense gun safety reform in our country is long overdue, and I will continue fighting to pass these measures into law to keep our communities safe,” said Congressman Pappas. “These bills will prevent guns from falling into the hands of criminals and bad actors while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. We have a responsibility not to turn a blind eye to the kind of senseless violence we see far too often across our country, and we must take reasonable steps to save lives.”

The Bipartisan Background Checks Act would establish universal background checks for firearm purchases. Background checks are quick, effective, and Constitutional. More than 90 percent of gun owners and non-gun owners support universal background checks. This legislation is endorsed by GIFFORDS, Brady, Everytown for Gun Safety, March For Our Lives, Newtown Action Alliance, and Sandy Hook Promise.

The Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act would prohibit the sale and possession of bump stocks and other devices or modifications that convert semiautomatic firearms into fully automatic weapons. This legislation is endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety, Newtown Action Alliance, Brady, and GIFFORDS.

Ethan’s Law, named in honor of Guilford teen Ethan Song, would set federal standards for safe gun storage, as well as give states incentives to create and implement safe gun storage laws. Ethan’s Law will help prevent unintentional shootings, suicide, and crime-related gun violence. The bill is endorsed by 186 organizations, including Brady United, Giffords, Newtown Action Alliance, the National Parent Teacher Association, Sandy Hook Promise, and Change the Ref.
