Pappas Calls for Passage of Pay Our Troops Act as Government Shutdown Looms
Today Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) called for the passage of H.R. 5641, the Pay Our Troops Act. This legislation will protect members of the military, including the Coast Guard, as well as certain U.S. Department of Defense civilian employees and contractors should Congress fail to provide temporary or full-year federal funding by September 30, 2023.
“Members of the armed forces defend our nation and our way of life every day, and we owe it to them to ensure they and their families never experience hardship as a result of political dysfunction in Washington,” said Congressman Pappas. “If the Speaker fails to bring a bipartisan bill to fund the government to the floor, an estimated 10,428 active duty and reserve personnel in New Hampshire would continue to work without pay. This isn’t right. We must bring this legislation to the floor to ensure our troops won’t miss a paycheck.”
Pappas also supports H.R. 5667, the Pay Our Military Act, additional bipartisan legislation which would ensure pay continues to our servicemen and women during a government shutdown.
