Pappas Calls On Leaders of Both Parties To Get A COVID-19 Compromise Deal Done

September 17, 2020

Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) called on leaders of both parties to get a compromise COVID-19 relief package done as soon as possible so that struggling Granite State businesses, workers, and communities get the help they need to survive.

"The United States is nearing a COVID-19 death toll of 200,000. Help for unemployed Americans has dried up. So too has funding for small businesses to pay employees and keep the lights on. And our states, cities, and towns are starting layoffs and cutting critical services to balance the budget," said Congressman Pappas. "In a time of great uncertainty, leaders in Washington must pass a meaningful relief program after months of delays. The political games and gimmicks have gone on long enough, and the inability of leaders on both sides to compromise and split the difference is maddening. Coming to the table and meeting in the middle is the only way we will pass the next relief bill. Earlier this week a bipartisan compromise was offered by 50 Democrats and Republicans. Was it perfect? No, but it was a strong proposal and shows that it is possible for both sides to work together toward a solution. We need more of that. I am reiterating my repeated calls to put aside the politics and the point scoring, sharpen our pencils, and get to work on a deal that will help Americans weather this storm."
