Pappas Helps Establish New Border Security Task Force in Congress
Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) is helping launch a new border security task force to focus on the need for comprehensive, bipartisan solutions to address our border and fix a broken immigration system.
“We must take action to secure our southern border, crack down on the trafficking of deadly substances like fentanyl, and reform our broken immigration system,” said Congressman Pappas. “We know that any border legislation must be bipartisan to pass Congress, yet Speaker Johnson continues to block the Senate’s bipartisan border bill. It’s time to put aside politics and focus on bringing Republicans and Democrats together to get this done for the American people. I remain committed to working across the aisle to do just that.”
Pappas has been an ardent supporter of bipartisan efforts to address America’s northern and southern border and has called on House Republican leadership to stop blocking the consideration of legislation to restore order at our southern border and fix a system that has been broken for decades.
Last year, Pappas introduced the Comprehensive Southern Border Strategy Act. Because no law exists to require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to create a strategy to secure our Southern border, this bipartisan legislation directs DHS to submit such a plan within 12 months of enactment.
Pappas called on House leadership to advance a supplemental appropriations package that expands fentanyl interdiction capacity and improves border security across the country, including along our northern border.
Pappas also helped introduce the Advanced Border Coordination Act. This bipartisan legislation would establish Joint Operation Centers along the southern border to serve as centralized operating hubs tasked with coordinating border operations, information sharing, and workforce training.
Pappas is a cosponsor of the DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act which is comprehensive, bipartisan legislation to address security and infrastructure challenges at the border, hire additional border patrol personnel, establish new pathways for asylum seekers, and create a path to citizenship.
