Pappas Invites New Hampshire Mother and Advocate to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress
Today Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that Julie Mudd, a mother and advocate, will join him as his guest for this year's Presidential Joint Address to Congress to highlight the needs of New Hampshire women and families as the Trump administration pursues cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and more.
Last week Pappas voted against a Republican budget proposal that would slash Medicaid and SNAP to cover the cost of $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. The cuts called for by the legislation would jeopardize health care coverage for 13.4% of Granite Staters, 30.1% of all New Hampshire children, and 64% of New Hampshire residents living in nursing homes. It would also raise health care premiums by an average of $640 per person, put food assistance for 18,500 at risk, and force New Hampshire to sunset the state’s Medicaid expansion program if the federal match for Medicaid expansion benefits is reduced even slightly.
“Hundreds of thousands of Granite Staters would be impacted by cuts to Medicaid and food assistance,” said Congressman Pappas. “I’m glad to welcome Julie Mudd as my guest to this year’s presidential joint address to highlight how programs like Medicaid have helped her family and so many others. We cannot jeopardize the health and wellbeing of children and families so politicians in Washington can pay for tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and giant corporations. I will continue to do everything I can to stop these cuts from moving forward."
“I’m honored to be attending the address with Congressman Pappas and to speak about the importance of programs like Medicaid and how they’ve helped families like mine,” said Julie Mudd. “I am grateful for Congressman Pappas’s commitment to lowering everyday costs for New Hampshire families and his work to ensure our children have a bright and safe future ahead.”
