Pappas Launches Campaign Encouraging NH Veterans To Claim PACT Act Benefits They Deserve

July 31, 2023

The targeted outreach effort on social media, email, and other digital and traditional platforms also reminds veterans about an upcoming August deadline to file for retroactive benefits

Ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Honoring Our PACT Act being signed into law, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01), a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and Ranking Member of the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee, launched an outreach effort to encourage New Hampshire veterans to submit a claim under the PACT Act and remind them they can file by August 9 to be eligible to receive retroactive benefits.

“The Honoring Our PACT Act finally recognizes toxic exposure as a cost of war and addresses its impacts on service members, and I was proud to fight for this legislation that expands eligibility for 3.5 million veterans," said Congressman Chris Pappas. “To date, thousands of New Hampshire veterans have filed PACT Act-related claims, but it is critical that we continue to get the word out to New Hampshire veterans about these resources. That is why we are reaching out to veterans and sharing PACT Act information on social media and other digital platforms. I urge New Hampshire veterans to file a claim as soon as possible, and encourage anyone with questions to contact our office for assistance.”

There is no deadline to apply for PACT Act-related benefits, but there is urgency. Most veterans and survivors who apply for benefits or submit an “Intent to File” by August 9, if granted, will have their benefits backdated to August 10th of last year – the day that President Biden signed the PACT Act into law.

Congressman Pappas’s outreach efforts will target Granite State veterans across social media platforms, email, and other digital media. He encourages all New Hampshire veterans to contact his office with questions or for assistance working with VA by calling (603) 285-4300 or visit https://pappas.house.gov/PACT

To date, New Hampshire veterans have filed 2,521 PACT Act-related claims, and an additional 1,466 veterans have been enrolled in VA care for the first time.
