Pappas, Posey Introduce Bipartisan PFAS Research and Development Reauthorization Act
Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) and Congressman Bill Posey (FL-08) introduced bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) research and development (R&D) authority with regards to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, more commonly known as PFAS. EPA’s PFAS research includes projects to measure PFAS in our air and water, understand the human health impacts of PFAS exposure, and mitigate PFAS contamination in our environment.
Currently, EPA’s PFAS R&D authority is set to expire at the end of fiscal year 2024. Pappas’s bipartisan legislation would reauthorize their R&D authority through the end of fiscal year 2029.
“EPA’s PFAS research helps protect our communities by ensuring we can accurately measure PFAS contamination and utilize the most up to date technologies to remediate it,” said Congressman Pappas. “I’m glad to partner with Congressman Posey on this bipartisan legislation to reauthorize EPA’s research and development authority, so we can continue to pursue innovative solutions that will protect the health of families in New Hampshire.”
“I’ve been working with DOD to protect 8th District families from the threats of forever chemicals,” said Congressman Posey. “We’ve got their attention. Today, I’m joining Congressman Pappas in introducing a bill to reauthorize EPA‘s PFAS research program which is set to expire by the end of this fiscal year. With the best science and DOD’s support we can prevail against PFAS.”
This bipartisan legislation is endorsed by the Environmental Working Group and the Southern Environmental Law Center.
