Pappas Receives Award for His Commitment to U.S. Manufacturing

March 9, 2023

Yesterday, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) received the Sentinel Award from the Warrior Protection and Readiness Coalition (WPRC) for his advocacy in the passage of his bipartisan Homeland Procurement Reform (HOPR) Act in the 117th Congress. Senator Shaheen led this legislation in the Senate.

The WPRC Sentinel Award is the association’s highest honor, presented annually to policymakers who have demonstrated extraordinary support for the American industry that manufactures advanced combat clothing and equipment for the Armed Services and Department of Homeland Security.

“It’s an honor to work with the Warrior Protection and Readiness Coalition to boost American manufacturing and help supply our military and first responders with the equipment they need. This award represents our commitment to prioritizing the procurement of American-made goods from small businesses and creating good-paying jobs in the U.S.,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “Last Congress we passed several important pieces of legislation to invest in our economy and bolster our national security, including the CHIPS and Science Act and my Homeland Procurement Reform Act. As we implement these bills, I will continue working across the aisle to strengthen U.S. manufacturing and workforce to support our economic and national security interests.”

Background:

Last Congress, Pappas helped introduce the Homeland Procurement Reform (HOPR) Act and secured its inclusion in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023. The HOPR Act directs the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to ensure that procurement of certain items, such as body armor and other protective gear, meets specified requirements, including that one-third of procurement funds be used for items manufactured by U.S. small businesses.
