Pappas’s Bipartisan Small Business Bills Advance Out of Committee with Unanimous Support

April 17, 2024

Today, during a House Small Business Committee markup, two bipartisan bills led by Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) advanced out of the Committee with unanimous, bipartisan support. The two bills were the Rural Small Business Resilience Act and the ThinkDIFFERENTLY About Disability Employment Act.

“Entrepreneurship is a major pathway for all Americans to achieve success and self-sufficiency, and we must ensure resources at the Small Business Administration are accessible and reaching every entrepreneur and small business,” said Congressman Pappas. “I’m glad that the full committee has advanced these two pieces of legislation with unanimous support to require SBA to tailor its outreach and marketing efforts to reach rural businesses and to ensure individuals with disabilities have equal access to support from SBA to pursue small business ownership and employment opportunities. I urge House leadership to swiftly bring these bills to the floor for a vote to improve support for these small businesses and entrepreneurs.”

Background:

The Rural Small Business Resilience Act would require the Small Business Administration (SBA) to develop specific outreach policies and procedures for rural communities and ensure that rural small businesses have full access to SBA disaster assistance, specifically tailoring outreach and marketing plans for SBA's Disaster Loan Program to address challenges rural communities face in accessing disaster relief.

The ThinkDIFFERENTLY About Disability Employment Act would require SBA and the National Council on Disability to collaborate to help people with disabilities pursue small business ownership and employment opportunities.
