Pappas Statement on GOP Funding Bills that Inject Extreme Politics into Bipartisan Process, Threaten National Security
GOP lawmakers attempted to add a ban on IVF treatment to legislation that guts border security funding, limits access to abortion and health care services, and targets LGBTQ+ individuals.
Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released a statement following extreme House Republicans hijacking the government funding process:
“Congress has an obligation to make good on our commitment to the American people to fund the government and provide the vital resources necessary to ensure our national defense, support working families, and maintain American leadership on the global stage. Unfortunately, the Republican majority has hijacked this process to score political points rather than provide for the wellbeing of Granite Staters. Extreme Republicans have politicized this process by adding dangerous, partisan language to gut border security funding, limit access to abortion and health care services, target LGBTQ+ individuals, and even attempted to add banning IVF treatment. I cannot support legislation that puts politics before people, and that’s why the Senate and House must come together to put aside partisanship and focus on the needs of everyday Americans. I look forward to supporting bipartisan, compromise legislation that does just that.”
