Pappas Statement on Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations

November 2, 2023

Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement on his vote on H.R. 6126 – Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024:

“Israel is our steadfast democratic ally and needs our unwavering support in the wake of the brutal Hamas terrorist attacks that shocked the world.  While I believe our nation and Congress is unified across political lines in support of Israel, House Speaker Mike Johnson has chosen to divide us at this critical moment with a bogus partisan bill that will only delay needed aid to Israel and the humanitarian assistance that must accompany it. This bill creates a dangerous precedent by setting partisan conditions on aid to Israel, a nation that is at war with terrorists and threatened by others who seek its annihilation. And by linking Israel aid to Republicans’ priority of letting wealthy tax cheats off the hook, the Speaker has shown just how unserious and cynical this bill is. While I cannot support this version, time is of the essence to finalize an aid package. I urge the Speaker to bring forward a measure like the one being crafted in the Senate that sets aside politics and truly focuses on the defense of Israel, the destruction of Hamas, and the humanitarian needs of those in the region.”
