Pappas Statement on the Inauguration of President Donald Trump
Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement ahead of attending the inauguration of President Trump:
“Today I will attend the inauguration of President Trump and witness a peaceful transfer of power that is a hallmark of American democracy. Now is the time to put aside political rhetoric and come together to address the concerns Americans voiced at the ballot box last November. We must take immediate action to lower the high cost of living, enact funding for border security and fixes for a broken immigration system, and work in a bipartisan fashion to solve problems.”
“While I stand ready to work with the administration if they come to the table in good faith to address these issues, I also am ready to stand up to President Trump when he’s wrong. I will fight against efforts to impose dramatic tariffs that make it harder for families, give massive tax breaks to the wealthy and gut Medicare and Social Security, and I will always stand up for fundamental freedoms including a woman’s right to choose. I urge the President and Republican leadership in Congress to learn from the mistakes of his first administration and instead focus on what can be done to move this country forward, lower costs, and ensure our communities remain safe and secure.”
