Pappas Statement on the SAVE Act

Today Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement after voting no on the SAVE Act:

“It is already illegal to vote in our elections if you are not a citizen of the United States, and New Hampshire local officials do an excellent job of enforcing this and all other existing laws every election. I voted no on this legislation today because it would force unnecessary federal changes to state voter registration and election procedures, creating even more undue burdens for married women, military members and their families, and seniors when they go to vote. Similar extreme legislation was recently implemented in New Hampshire, and we have already seen its ramifications on Granite Staters’ ability to cast their ballots on Town Meeting Day last month. I remain committed to safeguarding our free and fair elections and ensuring every eligible voter is able to make their voice heard.”
