Pappas Supports War Powers Resolution, Presses Administration to Prioritize Diplomacy, Security of Troops

June 23, 2025

Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement:

“I am grateful that all U.S. military personnel involved in this weekend’s strike have returned safely after completing their mission, and I thank them for their courage and professionalism. Iran is a terrorist state that must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon, a development that would threaten American national security and the very existence of our ally, Israel. In the wake of the strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, I call on the Trump Administration to re-engage in diplomacy and prioritize the safety of all American service members and civilians in the region."

“Granite Staters do not want our country to be drawn into another endless war in the Middle East. It is the role of Congress to consider and approve the deployment of U.S. military power to wage war, not a unilateral decision to be made by the President. That is why the administration must come to Congress immediately to answer questions about this attack and present a plan to protect our service members and national security interests.”

“Administrations of both parties have, for too long, operated beyond the powers granted to them by the Constitution and the law. I have consistently argued during my time in office that Congress must reassert its authority to determine the appropriate use of military force and prevent the United States from getting bogged down in conflicts. That is why I will support H. Con. Res. 38 and will continue to review additional measures to restore this check and affirm the role of Congress to debate and approve future military action.”
