Pappas Urges NH-01 to Complete The Census
This week, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) is participating in Census PUSH WEEK to promote the 2020 Census and is calling on every Granite Stater to complete their census and be counted. Required by the Constitution, the census is conducted every decade and plays a crucial role in how federal resources and funding is distributed across our country.
New Hampshire has a 62.5% response rate, but Pappas is encouraging his constituents to raise that number.
"Once every ten years we have the responsibility to stand up and be counted," said Congressman Pappas. "The census isn't just a headcount, it plays a tremendously important role in determining the federal resources New Hampshire schools, hospitals, infrastructure, and first responders will receive for years to come. Every Granite Stater has the opportunity to strengthen their community by filling out the census by mail or visiting 2020census.gov today. Let's make sure all of New Hampshire is counted."
Congressman Pappas completed his census online in March.
New Hampshire priorities determined by the Census include:
- Funding levels for Medicare and Medicaid
- Funding for roads, hospitals, fire departments, senior care centers, and other community development oriented projects
- Title I, special education, and Head Start grants
- Apportionment of state representatives from each municipality
- Representation in Congress by Congressional district
- Understanding of demographic changes and shifting regional identities
