Rep. Pappas Calls for Bipartisan Coronavirus Package That Helps Families and Workers While Supporting NH Small Businesses
Legislation should include priorities such as paid leave, free coronavirus testing, and unemployment aid for workers as well as significant assistance to support small businesses and their employees in New Hampshire
Washington, DC - Today Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) called on Congress to swiftly pass bipartisan legislation to address the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States with direct support for families and communities as well as small businesses and their employees. In addition to paid sick leave, free coronavirus testing, and expanded unemployment aid, the legislation should also include significant assistance for main street businesses.
"As we work to provide a comprehensive response to ensure the health and wellbeing of our communities and families, we cannot forget the small businesses and their employees in New Hampshire and across the country that are the bedrock of our economy and need immediate help to withstand the impact of this outbreak," said Congressman Pappas. "Our office has been speaking with local businesses that are already being hurt by the economic dislocation caused by this global pandemic, and as a small business owner myself I know how critical it is to ensure this sector is strong. Legislative solutions considered by Congress should include additional low-cost loans and other forms of direct financial support that can help our small businesses weather this uncertain period."
"I am thankful the President declared a national emergency today, and I urge the Administration to ensure that Granite State small businesses can access relief under the Stafford Act and through every other available means so that they can sustain themselves as this crisis unfolds."
"Moving forward, we must continue to ensure Americans' basic needs are met, assist students being affected by university closures, expand access to health services, and ensure patients have access to the medicines they depend on. I will continue working with leaders at the federal, state, and local levels so Granite Staters are supported in this exceptionally challenging time for our communities and our country."
