Rep. Pappas Statement on January 6th Anniversary

January 6, 2022

Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement on the anniversary of the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol:

"One year ago today, the world watched in horror as an armed mob stormed the U.S. Capitol with the intent of disrupting our democratic process and overturning a free and fair election," said Congressman Chris Pappas. "The attack that left five dead and hundreds wounded, including 140 members of law enforcement, must never be forgotten. And while a year has passed, the physical and psychological wounds of that day are still felt by all. Our democracy remains under threat from those who persist in peddling the lies that sparked the assault and seek to rewrite history by downplaying or denying outright what we all saw. As always, I stand with the brave members of law enforcement and the U.S. Capitol Police, thank them for their service, and mourn their losses. January 6th shook us to our core. But my commitment to upholding my oath to preserve, protect, and defend our Constitution remains as strong as ever. Now is a time to stand together, seek accountability for those who perpetrated the violent insurrection, and protect our democracy so that such an attack can never succeed as it nearly did on January 6, 2021."
