Pappas Helps Create Select Committee to Advance American Competitiveness

January 10, 2023

Today, Congressman Chris Pappas issued the following statement after voting to create a Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Communist Party of China:

“It’s critical we continue to advance bipartisan legislation that will ensure the United States remains globally competitive. I was proud to help pass the CHIPS and Science Act and my Homeland Procurement Reform Act into law last year to boost American manufacturing, make long-term investments in our competitiveness, and prioritize the procurement of American-made goods from small businesses. I hope the creation of this committee will help us strengthen American innovation, manufacturing, and research and development to boost our economy and create good-paying jobs in New Hampshire.”

Background:

In July 2022, Pappas helped pass the bipartisan Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) and Science Act to boost American competitiveness by supporting domestic manufacturing of semiconductor chips, strengthening our supply chains, and investing substantially in science and technology developments.

In December 2022, Pappas’s bipartisan Homeland Procurement Reform Act, which will ensure domestic small businesses and manufacturers are prioritized for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) procurement contracts, was signed into law. This legislation was introduced in the Senate by Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
