WASHINGTON, D.C. – More than $30 million in federal funding is coming to New Hampshire from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help address the state’s housing affordability crisis.

New Hampshire will receive $21,547,769 in grant funding toward affordable housing, community development and homeless assistance and $9,971,896 in Public Housing Repair grant funding to improve and modernize public housing stock in the Granite State.

VA Manchester Health Care is building a new health care facility for women veterans.

Veterans Affairs officials said the facility will include a wide range of services, including maternity care, gynecology and menopause care.

Officials said it will have a private waiting room, with space for kids to wait, as well.

ROCHESTER — Democratic U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas visited Rochester Child Care Center to take part in its Earth Day celebration on Tuesday, April 22.

Pappas was joined by Cora-Lynn Hoppe, executive director of the Rochester Child Care Center, and Maria Finnegan, director of Climate and Health Initiative for Caregivers and Kids, as well as the center's staff and families. The event featured nature crafts, food, and learning activities aimed to connect kids with the natural world and emphasize the role they can play in protecting our planet.

RYE — Beside the shores of Rye Harbor, pummeled in January by coastal storms, local, state and federal officials gathered Monday to discuss the future resiliency of the Route 1A corridor with help from a $20.2 million federal grant.

Earlier in the day Gov. Chris Sununu announced President Biden had approved more than $3 million in federal FEMA funds to help repair some of the damage from the January storms in Rockingham and Grafton counties.

RYE, N.H. —New Hampshire is getting more than $20 million in federal funding to help rebuild parts of Route 1A in North Hampton and Rye.

Officials said the funds are the beginning of what's expected to be a years-long investment to make the Seacoast more resilient.

GILFORD — Congressman Chris Pappas (D-NH) highlighted the importance of supporting sustainable development after touring the state's only polystyrene recycling facility last week. The transfer station recently received a $54,000 grant from the Northern Border Regional Commission.

Gilford Public Works Director Meghan Theriault demonstrated the machinery that compresses massive bags of foam into tidy blocks which are sold to plastics companies and used to create insulation, molding and other items on April 2.

SARGENT'S PURCHASE — It was a mild winter day in late February when I got to join U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.) for a trip to the summit of Mount Washington. At 6,288 feet, with temperatures in the high 20s, one might even say it was balmy.

A snow cat ride to the summit is a privilege, a trip that few get the chance to take. The Auto Road and summit facilities are generally closed to visitors in the winter, except for a few special trips.

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Chris Pappas (D- NH-01) announced the first of two legislative packages to fund the government through fiscal year 2024 will include funding he secured for two projects in Manchester among others across the New Hampshire First Congressional District.

The first provides $850,000 to fund he Downtown Traffic Signal Infrastructure Improvements project, which will improve signal timing with active detection technology for the safety for both pedestrians and drivers.

PORTSMOUTH — A program that brings affordable internet connectivity to low-income New Hampshire residents is ending in April. Congressman Chris Pappas, D-New Hampshire, said he's hoping to help change that.

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) helps people who struggle to afford high speed broadband get connected to the internet. In New Hampshire’s First District, represented by Pappas, 17,453 households are enrolled. This includes 464 households in Portsmouth, 1,464 in Rochester, and 934 in Rollinsford.

New Hampshire’s federal lawmakers are raising concerns about a potential change to the U.S. Postal Service’s regional processing network that could shift some sorting operations from Manchester to Boston.

The proposal calls for relocating certain sorting equipment that, according to the state’s delegation, could mean mail sent and destined for addresses in New Hampshire may first be detoured to Boston, resulting in delivery delays.
