WASHINGTON — Bipartisan legislation to issue a commemorative $1 coin honoring the late Space Shuttle Challenger teacher/astronaut Christa McAuliffe of Concord passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday, and is headed to President Donald Trump's desk to be signed into law.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., has been pursuing this legislation since 2016. This year, 81 of the 100 senators signed on as cosponsors.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) applauded the passage of the bipartisan Christa McAuliffe Commemorative Coin Act of 2019, which they introduced alongside Congressman Fred Upton (MI-06). The passage of this legislation will mint a Christa McAuliffe silver coin to honor the Granite State teacher who tragically perished in the Space Challenger Disaster, after being selected to become the first civilian teacher in space.

Washington, D.C.- Representative Chris Pappas was appointed by his colleagues to serve as a Conferee to help negotiate the FY20 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The Conference Committee, made up of a select group of House and Senate members, will merge the House and Senate versions of the bill into a final version. After the committee completes its work, the final NDAA will be voted on in both chambers of Congress before going to the President's desk to be signed into law.

Washington D.C. – Today, Representative Chris Pappas (NH-01), alongside Lori Trahan (MA-03), Kendra Horn (OK-05), and Abby Finkenauer (IA-01) introduced The Strengthen CTE in Higher Education Act. This legislation authorizes $200 million in funding to foster greater cooperation and alignment between Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and educational institutions and employers.

Washington, D.C.- Today Representative Chris Pappas pressed Dave Ross, from the EPA Office of Water, during today's hearing titled "The Administration's Priorities and Policy Initiatives Under the Clean Water Act." During the hearing, Congressman Pappas expressed deep concerns over PFAS contamination on behalf of Granite Staters and called on the EPA to take swift action to address the growing public health crises across New Hampshire and our country.

Along with Acting Administrator for EPA Region 1 Deborah Szaro, and other state and local officials, the Representatives toured the Manchester Wastewater Treatment Facility and went on to Lowell to hear from community leaders and stakeholders about and to see the concerns firsthand.

Hooksett, NH – Yesterday, Representatives Chris Pappas (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02) held a roundtable discussion with representatives from the Manchester VA, state of New Hampshire, health care providers, spouse survivors of suicide and local veterans to discuss ways to strengthen health care services related to suicide. The purpose of the event was to garner greater understanding and collaborate to realize opportunities to collectively prevent suicide among servicemembers and Veterans.
